I’m often asked: what is the Children’s Wish Foundation? The answer to this is not an easy one. For some it’s a spot of light in the dark while for others it’s just one of the hundreds of charities that they come across on a daily basis.
This Children’s Wish Foundation is an all-Canadian wish granting charity that, impressively, maintains a “no wait list” policy. About 3 wishes each day are granted for those who are terminally ill and are aged 3-17. Most people compare it to the Make-A-Wish Foundation that has the same basic idea. However the Children’s Wish Foundation strives to carefully structure and execute each and every wish, adding a personal touch thanks to the dedicated staff in every province. Learning about the hundreds of children that have been granted wishes from this charity is heart-warming. The pictures depicting their pure joy on having their biggest wish fulfilled is a reward on its own.
Hence, I decided to do my fair share by selling donuts to travellers in my home town of Vancouver. Specifically Krispy Kreme donuts. Most stopped by for pictures and for a chat which was just as fun. I met people from all over the world, most who hadn’t heard of the charity and were glad to donate for such a good cause. Many were just surprised to see a girl walking around with a crown on her head and selling donuts!
Knowing that my donations will make a difference in a child’s life is a gift on its own. I hope to continue fundraising for such amazing charities that do in fact make an enormous impact on the community.
With love, Miss. Greater Vancouver World
