Hello Everyone!

Today I just wanted to share some of my favorite spots to go to in the Fraser Valley Region! I love the Fraser Valley Region and I just wanted to share why!

FOOD

As you all know I LOVE food. Olive garden is probably at the top of the list when it comes to restaurants. To start off I always get either Spicy Shrimp Scampi Fritta or the zuppa Toscana soup. But whether I like it or not, whenever I get the Zuppa Toscana soup I can never get enough! This soup is delicious! The soup topped up with their delicious breadsticks is the way to my heart! Not to mention that their traditional salad is phenomenal as well! And if you get the soup and salad together, it is the best combination!

For entrees, I usually create my own pasta. The pasta usually consists of spaghetti with traditional meat sauce. You can never go wrong with that!

Red Robins, Langley

Not too far behind in the restaurant category is Red Robins. I can say I have tried almost everything off their menu! From burgers to platters, you name it.

Where do I start here? There is just so much food to talk about from here! Don’t worry, I will try to keep my list as concise as possible. My Go To appetizers from here are the onion rings. They are SO delicious. If not the onion rings, I usually get yam fries. Their yam fries with the Baja Ranch is amazing, if you have not tried it yet you should try it soon!

As for entrees my top two dishes are the Ensenada Chicken Platter and the Banzai burger. Two very different choices I know, but which one I get depends on my mood of the day! You can not go wrong with either of these choices! The burger, it might be messy but it tastes heavenly! The grilled pineapple and teriyaki sauce make this burger perfect for me.

Highstreet Shopping Centre, Abbotsford

Everyone knows a girl needs her shopping. This mall is my favourite in the Fraser Valley Region. It has ALL the stores I love! Call it Spring, David’s Tea, Forever 21, GNC, everything!

I could talk about this mall for pages! But for today I will tell you about the top 5 stores I love going to.

  • Sephora (My FAVOURITE makeup store)
  • David’s Tea
  • Forever 21
  • H&M
  • Call it Spring

Cultus Lake Park, Fraser Valley

If you have not been here you should visit this Lake soon. It is surreal. The beauty of this park is a major reminder of why I love this lake so much. It is soothing and relaxing for me. Whenever I go there, I unplug myself from all technology and just enjoy the beauty of the park. Along with the Lake, I love the Cultus Lake Adventure Park as well! For a hot summer day this park is perfect to visit.

Minter Gardens, Chilliwack

This is one of the most beautiful and peaceful gardens I know of. The, beauty, serenity and peacefulness of this garden is what attracts me and the thousands of others who love this garden as much I do. My favourite part is how they creatively display their colourful flowers! Just take a look at the Canadian flag made out of only flowers! Its amazing. Spring is my favorite time to visit here.

Vancouver Dive, Abbotsford

Although I have not been able to try this sky diving out yet, it is for sure on my bucket list! Once I do I will let you all know how I liked it!

I hope you all got a glimpse of why I love my Fraser Valley Region so much!

Much Love,

Hello Everyone!

As promised, I will be discussing some of the events I had the chance to be a part of, media appearances, and just some general appearances. Due to the long list I will be making a few posts!

Harry Hooge Elementary School

Many of you might not know that I started Kindergarten at Harry Hooge Elementary School! I was there until grade 4! After all these years I was OVERJOYED that I had the opportunity to speak there! I spoke to 3 different classes about bullying, body image, and self worth! They asked me interesting questions and most of them wanted to touch my crown so of course I let them! I also found two of my elementary school yearly pictures on the school walls from when I was there, see if you can find me!

This was such a great experience, the school is exactly how I remembered it. It made me realize when I was young and attending the school, the most insignificant things mattered to me and now I realize how insignificant they were.

Just like that at every stage of life we face situations and things that may seem very significant in the moment but we should take a moment and figure out if those things will matter in the next ten years, if not then we shouldn’t stress over them and waste our time. Time is precious, lets focus on what matters!

Canada 150 Mosaic Mural

I had the honor of painting some tiles for a mural celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday! The mural is now complete in Langley. I got paint in my hair and on my shirt haha safe to say I had fun! It feels great to be a part of a Canada 150 painting that is hung in Langley! I represented my title in a tile!!

Daughters of the King Women’s Conference

I had the opportunity to speak on women empowerment at a women’s conference! I met many inspirational women and felt honored to be the youngest speaker.

Women are intrigued by the concept of women empowerment and most of us support it, but what we don’t realize is women empowerment isn’t just relevant during conferences or women’s events, it is something each one of us should be doing every single day. We all know the struggles women have to face in society these days and we should encourage each other every single day to be the best we can be.

Something that is the most dangerous hindrance in empowerment is something women are notoriously popular for…. gossiping. Gossip is the one of the biggest reasons we fail to empower each other. Empowerment isn’t just to a person’s face, empowerment is lifting that person up in their absence as well. By gossiping and talking down about another person’s failure or mistake, we automatically are assuming we are better than them, better mothers ( if it is regarding the actions of their children), better wives (if its regarding the husband), better sisters, daughters or anything. By assuming we are better than another person we are letting pride take over, not realizing that each and every one of us are human and we are ALL products of our successes and our failures.

If we act as though we are on one team we would not be trying to bring each other down because what happens when you bring a team member down, is your entire team is brought down. If you see someone who is lacking or failing as a mother, a daughter, a professional, rather than talking about it and making their life harder than it already is, HELP THEM.

If you can’t help them, pray for them. Don’t bring them down any further. If God has brought you to a level in life where you are satisfied with your life in every way, be humble, the last thing you would want is God himself opposing you for the things you are proud of. We never know what can happen in life, people’s lives change within a blink of an eye.

Let’s make an effort to be kind to one another, lift each other up because were in this together.

Much Love,

Philipa

Hi Everyone!!!

I have been extremely busy with volunteering, media appearances, and preparing for the Miss World Canada competition which is right around the corner!

I just wanted to update you all on some of the events I have attended and the places I have volunteered lately. This post will just be the places I have volunteered.

Big Brothers and Sisters of Langley

As you all know women empowerment through education is my Beauty with a Purpose project, many of you might not know that I am an active volunteer with the Big Brothers and Sisters of Langley and currently I am a mentor at a Go! Girls group with 12 young girls. We teach them about healthy relationships, healthy eating, healthy living, self-confidence, self-worth, and many other topics to help direct them in the right direction so they are fully equipped with information when they face struggles in life. We create a  judgment-free environment for the young girls to be comfortable and confident in who they are. Each session we play games and have a lot of fun and also have a question session where they can ask us anything and everything they are confused about in life. We are there to be their friends. It is absolutely amazing how much we learn from young children.

Abbotsford Police Run

I had a blast volunteering at the Abbotsford Police Challenge Run! I had the chance to help with registration and handing out awards with the honorable Chief Constable!

The run was in support of the Special Olympics.

Some of the special Olympians are seen in this picture below.

“The Abbotsford Police Challenge Run has rasied over $400,000 for local charities since its inaugural event. The run is driven by local volunteer efforts and the support of several local businesses.”-Abbotsford Police Department.

RBC Race for the Kids

I had the amazing opportunity to volunteer at the RBC Race for the Kids. There were SOOO many people there it was amazing to see the community come together for such an amazing cause. I helped with registration and had an amazing time mingling with people from all over the Lower Mainland! This run supported the BC Children’s Hospital and I felt honored to be able to volunteer here. I was blown away by the entertainment and food that was available after the run. This run was one of the best ones I have volunteered at. The energy was amazing!!

Langley Lodge Seniors Home

Time is a priceless gift. I had the privilege to spend quality time with some seniors at Langley Lodge recently. I met some inspirational people!

The first picture on the right is of two brothers who live there together at the Langley Lodge, how cool is that! They were so awesome and cute!

The picture on the right is with Alan, such a funny guy! He said he will frame this picture, melted my heart!

The picture below is with Pauline who is 101!! She had such a pretty glittery bow on her head!

This picture is with Laura who is 109!!! She loves spending time with the birds in the background!

I couldn’t get pictures with everyone but I had a great time! Sometimes we get very busy and forget about our elders who stay at places like the Langley Lodge. I believe we should all make an effort to go spend some quality time with them. They are very wise and have so many things to teach us about life because they have been though many tough situations throughout their lives. Most of all, the look on their faces when they see visitors is just absolutely PRICELESS.

If you havent already, read my blog posts about volunteering at the

55th Annual Langley Walk   and the    The Canadian Festival of Chili and BBQ

Stay tuned for my next post on media appearances and events!

Much Love,

Great friends and family are the most important people in our lives. They are there for our milestones and right behind us to support us when we work towards our dreams and aspirations. Most of us feel secure around our loved ones, and their opinions and suggestions weigh heavily when we make any decisions about our lives.

We often fail to recognize the amount of power we have over the decisions and ultimately the future of our loved ones. Naturally, if someone has to exit their comfort zone and place themselves in a vulnerable situation, they will do so in front of the ones they are most comfortable with before anyone else. At times we underestimate the courage it takes a person to put themselves in a vulnerable situation and open up.

Let’s take public speaking for an example, many people are TERRIFIED by the thought of speaking in public. They would probably feel secure to rehearse in front their loved ones to build the courage to speak in front of an audience. Now imagine a person who is terrified of public speaking tries to rehearse in front of their loved ones and right as they start talking (all awkward and nervous), the people they’re speaking in front of burst out in laughter and start mocking the person. RIGHT THEN AND THERE the person will shut down and regret their decision to speak in public. Regardless of how many apologies are given later on, that initial reaction would’ve broken all the confidence they spent a long time building to be vulnerable enough to rehearse in front of their loved ones.

We should always respect the effort people place in stepping out of their comfort zone and allowing themselves to be vulnerable. If someone is comfortable around us to initiate vulnerability, we should always respect their effort and provide constructive criticism to help them grow. People close to us respect our opinion about them and we will be one of the first people they experiment their vulnerable side with and if we laugh or mock them in these initial stages of development, they will immediately regret the idea of stepping out of their comfort zone. If our jokes and mocking hinders the close people in our life from building the courage to take steps towards developing a brighter future, maybe we should reconsider our actions.

We are often comfortable to joke around with our loved ones, but we should never forget that our negative mocking reactions can actually hurt the people who are vulnerable around us. There is a time and place for everything and the ability to distinguish the right moments can prevent us from hurting those who are close to us and hindering their abilities to excel in life.

Rather than taking our loved ones for granted we should support and empower them with constructive feedback and words of encouragement. I am one hundred percent sure no one would want to be the reason behind their loved one giving up on their dreams!

Just some food for thought!

Much Love,

Philipa

Hello Friends!

I recently had the opportunity to volunteer at the 55th Annual Langley Walk. I was thrilled to be able to volunteer at such an amazing event that was free of charge for the participants as the main motive for it was to bring the community together for the day! It was supposed to be a nice day but it was only nice in the sun and very cold in the shade so I had to make sure I had my coat on, albeit I looked out of place when I took pictures with the participants but in my defense they were running and I was sitting in the cold shade!

I helped registering people for the walk and gave them sheets with all the 150 activities they can do to stay active for the Canada 150 ParticipAction movement. At the end of the walk I was honored to award the participants crests at the finish line. I was so amazed to learn that one of my fellow volunteers walked in the very first Langley walk and that the kind lady in the picture had walked in EVERY SINGLE one of the walks. This time she came with her grandchildren, how amazing is that! She had all the crests on a sash so I had to take a picture with her!

The most honorable moment was when the kind Mayor of Township of Langley, Jack Froese asked me to take a picture with him. Unlike the preconceived idea of political leaders, he was very approachable and social.

I also met members of the council, and once again, they were the sweetest and some of them were hilarious. We all had a great time together joking around about how all the children were fascinated by my crown so they walked right up to me to get the crest and not all the other esteemed men handing them out. I felt honored to be able to hand out crests to the participants at the finish line with such respected individuals.

Now that I have been crowned Miss Fraser Valley World 2017, I have more chances to volunteer in the community and I understand the importance of putting daily life aside at times and taking part in community events. I met so many nice and helpful people and I had a great time networking and socializing with all them!

After the walk they sent such a nice thank you letter with a crest for myself! I was touched.

I truly believe that networking and socializing with people at community events actually helps us build our social circle and the possibilities that can arise are endless!

Much Love,

Philipa

Hello everyone!

On May 6th 2017 I was honored to be presented with the opportunity to judge amongst other esteemed judges at The Canadian Festival of Chili and BBQ. Numerous upcoming and already established people competed for the prize. Some winners were even awarded with a chance to advance to compete in international competitions!

Having the opportunity to be a judge at a cooking competition sounded like fun and I was thrilled to take part, but started getting nervous when I found out what the competitors had at stake! I tried my best to judge every single bowl of chili as if it was the first and only one I would be trying. By the end of the day I had tried 31 different entries of chili!!! The organizers were shocked at the fact that I was excited to judge at a cooking competition and was willing to try so much food knowing that I will be competing for Miss World Canada 2017 fairly soon.

I am adventurous and believe that a person should avail all positive opportunities presented. Life experiences shape who we are as people and in my opinion taking part in events which may be considered out of the ordinary leave us with the most precious memories. This opportunity was interesting and I had done nothing of its sort in the past so I knew I had to take part especially because it supported a phenomenal cause.

This event supports The BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund. In the past few years over $35,000 has been raised for this charity. Prior to this I had never heard of such an organization and it made me realize that there are so many phenomenal charitable organizations that most of us are not aware of. Volunteering at a variety of events allows us to be exposed to all the great work that is going on in our community. I learned a lot throughout my time volunteering as a judge and needless to say this definitely was an experience of a lifetime!

Much Love,

Philipa

Hello everyone!

I hope all of you are well. I wanted to check in with you all and tell you a little about myself. My first name is Philipa but my friends usually call me by my middle name Shauna. I’m twenty five years old, I was born in Pakistan and moved to Canada when I was four.  I lived in Canada for five years before moving back to Pakistan for another six years, then I finally moved back to Canada and have been here since. My stay in Pakistan was long enough for me to thoroughly understand the culture and traditions for which I am grateful. I consider myself blessed to be raised in a culturally diverse environment.

An interesting fact about me is that I graduated high school when I was sixteen years old. After graduating high school I started my BSc major in biology as I wanted to pursue a career in dentistry. During the second year of my degree I decided to take a break and complete a certificate in certified dental assisting to thoroughly understand the field by hands on experience. Although after a few years I decided to change my career path upon realizing it wasn’t my true passion.

While searching for my true passion to pursue a career in I realized counselling came naturally to me and it was something I had already been practicing for years with my close friends and family. To be a successful counselor I believe one needs to possess empathy and compassion. Listening to the life stories of people and helping them overcome challenges is a fulfilling experience for me. After completing my BSc I aspire to attain a PhD in counselling psychology.

After numerous life experiences I have chosen to take a stand for women and be an ambassador for women empowerment. It has taken me a long time to fully understand my worth and I want every woman to experience the liberating feeling of understanding that they are the ones who establish how they are meant to be treated and respected.

My passion for women empowerment and helping others led me to sponsor women from Women for Women International. This organization supports the most marginalized women to earn and save money, improve health and well-being, influence decisions in their home and community, and connect to networks for support. By utilizing skills, knowledge, and resources, she is able to create sustainable change for herself, her family, and community. They give the women a monthly stipend to help with the monthly expenses, while educating them for a year. They also teach the women basic life, business, and vocational skills. They are educated about their legal rights, and given health and nutritional lessons. Women increase their ability to earn an income with new skills that are in demand. Women graduate the program with confidence and a greater sense of self-worth. 91% women also have reported to be an active part of household financial decisions by the end of the year. This organization also educates the men on the importance of women empowerment.

I am currently working with other national and international organizations and will announce them when the time is right! Keep checking back to stay in touch with all the current events and programs I am a part of.

I am overjoyed to be a part of such an amazing and life changing experience. There is always a stigma around pageants. It would be my honor to take steps to eliminate that stigma as this pageant has given me a platform to have a voice for women empowerment.

Since I have received the title of Miss Fraser Valley World 2017 I have already had multiple opportunities to volunteer in the community and help raise funds for phenomenal causes.

Miss World Canada 2017 pageant is held on July 22nd in Toronto. I am honored to be able to represent British Columbia. If I win the title of Miss World Canada 2017 I will further collaborate with organizations to empower women alongside raising funds for different charities at a national and international level.

In my next blogs I will be posting about the recent events I have taken part in and the upcoming events! Thank you for following my journey thus far!
